Our Legal Document Preparation Beginnings in 1980
Established in a historic building in old downtown Ventura, our original name was A Paralegal Solution. The name was later changed to A Legal Solution and then again to our current name A People’s Choice. Our legal document preparation business name evolved over the years to comply with changes to statutory regulations in B&P Code Section 6400-6401.6 and 11 USC Section 110 which define the way our services are represented and provided to the public. Paralegals and legal document assistants became two separate professions and the word “legal” was no longer allowed to be used in the business name for non-attorney companies that prepared bankruptcy paperwork.
From our humble beginnings in 1980 to the present, A People’s Choice has grown to be a one-of-a-kind statewide legal document preparation service, providing full-service document preparation in a variety of areas from divorce, name change, adoption, probate, expungement, conservatorship and more. Our legal document preparation services help thousands of consumers every year with routine legal matters, while saving them thousands of dollars in legal costs.
Meet Our Founder
Sandra McCarthy founded A People’s Choice in 1980 and has worked exclusively in the legal field since 1976. She served as the President of CALDA (California Association of Legal Document Assistants) 2004-2005. During her career Ms. McCarthy obtained a Paralegal Certificate from the University of California, Santa Barbara; and has also worked as a freelance paralegal, law office manager and paralegal studies teacher. In the early 1980s our clients came to us through attorney referrals. Often these individuals were unable to afford full attorney representation. Over the years, the company has expanded to offer low-cost, non-attorney legal document help and services throughout all 58 counties in California. We offer in-person, telephonic and online interview options for our customers.
